hsmenon Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 Hi, I apologize if this has been covered before. My green card will expire in May 2022. I have decided to apply for US citizenship. Would it be an issue if I apply to renew my green card in the middle of the citizenship application process. Or should I wait until I renew my green card to begin the citizenship application process? Thanks. Quote
newacct Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 You remain a permanent resident even if your green card is expired. If you want proof of permanent residency in the meantime, you shouldn't need to spend money to file I-90 to renew your green card -- you should be able to get an I-551 stamp on your passport on the basis of having a pending N-400.
