Working with 2 companies on H1B

I wanted to know if it's ok to work for 2 companies on H1B. 

I am currently employed by a company on H1B and have I140 approved. I am planning to join a new company and they filed for H-1B change of employer petition and the H1B got approved with them as well. But, My current company wants me to consult for 2 more months until March. Hence, I wanted to figure out if it's doable without hampering my position with the new company that I really want to join. If possible, what do I need to do?

I don't think you can be on payroll for 2 companies while on H1B, its either or, may be he is asking you to volunteer for 2 months while on your notice period while you get paid by company B.

On H1B you can work legally for 40 hours for one employer. But if you want to work for multiple employers, the employers must file new H1B petition. Without amendment if you try to work for 2 months in future you might get into legal issues...
