Is Stamping Required: Valid visa but new I-797?

I have a question regarding stamping of my son (H4).
Last time when he went for visa stamping in June 2016, his visa was stamped for 5 years, i.e. till Jun-2021. Although H1B/ H4 that time were valid till Jan-2017 only.
So my wife and I got visa till Jan-2017 only, but my son visa is valid till Jun-2021. Still not sure why he was given 5 years visa.

Later I filed for extension and new H1B/H4 is valid till Jan-2020. Question is, if we travel now do my son need to go for stamping again as we have new I-797?

Not needed if the current visa is valid.

They made mistake and issued visa to him based on his passport expiration. You still need to apply for his visa this time. They will take appropriate action this time.
