Green Card for student on F-1

I am pursuing my Masters in the US and am here on a F-1 visa. I finish with my program at the university in May 2017. Wondering when it makes sense for me to file my green card (though my wife, who is a green card holder).

When is she eligible to become a citizen?. Once you file the I-130 re-entry in F1 status may be hindered.
