Filing 485 independent with approved I-140

I recently heard from my previous employer through which I have one approved I-140 that - I can file I-485 myself when my PD is current without their participation or working for them at that time. Is that true?

 

I understand GC is for future employment. when it is required to work for sponsoring employer? after GC card receive or during the process?

Once approved you will need to start working for that employer.
