India travel before h1 visa expiration

Hi,

 

I am planning to travel to india around mid-april and come back by end of April. Currently I do have visa stamping on my passport and visa stamp is expiring on Sep 1, 2014.

My passport is expiring on march 5th, 2015.

 

So I would like to know if its safe to travel before 4 months of visa expiration. I am planning to apply for my extension once I am back.

or is it a good idea to apply for extension before I travel to India??
