H1 visa will travel to India and come back on H4

Hey,

 

My friend is working on H1 visa. Her last day where she currently works is 31st Jan 2014.

 

She is planning to go to India. If she leaves India on or before Jan 31st , can she come back on H4 visa , or will she first have to get her status changed from H1 to H4 and then go to India get her H4 stamped in India.

She needs a H4 visa to return. This applies even were she to change status to h4 here. Hence she does not need to change status to H4 first.

She needs to apply for a H4 visa at US consulate to enter on H4 status. No need to apply for change of status in this situation.
