I work for company A and Company B is working on my H1B transfer.

Meanwhile, I am planning to resign from Company A and take few days break before joining Company B. Is this possible?

As long as a cap exempt H1B petition is filed by employer B you are fine for those few days. If your transfer gets rejected after resigning from employer A with employer A's petition being revoked you have to leave US. It is better to resign after approval of employer B's petition.

You can resign once the new petition is approved. Then you have 60 days to report. You should not resign before the new petition is approved.
