rooki15 Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Hi,I would like sponsor tourist VISA to my father in law but he has a pending corruption court case on him. Can I still sponsor visa? What are the chances of getting visa approved? Do I need to add any extra documentation. Please advise. my visa status H-1B.Any help would be really appreciated.
pontevecchio Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Tourist visas are not sponsored. The expenses of the trip can be borne by anybody. As per your post your FIL is facing charges which is not the same thing as being convicted. Fill up the DS-160 suitably.
omshiv Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Firstly you DO NOT sponsor anybody. They should sponsor themselves!! Is your uncle a politician?
jairichi Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 It is better your father-in-law supports himself for a visitor visa. You better stay away from it. Also, I believe a corruption case is a criminal proceeding and I do not think he has the right to leave his home country till a judgment is pronounced.
rooki15 Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 Thank you all for your replies. Current situation is he got arrested on corruption charges but got bail after a week and he has passport with him. Now, I want to invite him here to stay for couple of months. The lawyer in India hasn't said anything for not leaving country. Do I need to mention any extra in form DS160 or just check the option to 'YES' where it asks 'have you ever been convicted or arrested for any offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty or other similar action?

You said he was arrested so the answer should be yes.
omshiv Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 the TRUTH should be the answer..so you have to mention he got arrested. Why are you bringing him here?
