random007
Hi, I'm thinking about going for Stamping in Canada. One of the advantages I've heard is that if your visa is denied and you drove, you can still drive back into the US. Since the POE on the road only checks for valid I-94. They do not check whether there is a stamp in your Passport. But if you fly, they do check your Passport. Is there any truth to this? Has anyone driven to Canada recently? Please advise. Thank you. pontevecchio
You heard wrong. If you go to Canada for your visa and the visa is denied you cannot return on the basis of the existing I-94. That is specifically not allowed by law to prevent the sort of misuse you would seem to describe. Link to comment
pras604
I agree. You need a Valid Visa to return to USA. I have very recently driven to Toronto for my H1B Stamping. I did it because it was cheaper. However, there is risk involved that you might denied and have to stay back. My thought was I could ask any of my "GC" holder friends to go pick up the car if that happened. Personally I think, if you find cheap tickets, flying is better. Book a hotel close to Consulate, and almost everything else is very nearby. Link to comment
