Travel while EAD renewal is pending.

I have to travel abroad and my EAD expires in April. I'm thinking of applying now (less than 90 days expiry), so by the time I return from vacation , my new EAD will arrive before expiry of previous one. Can one leave the country after filing EAD renewal without abandoning that application? I know one must have AP approval in hand before departure but I guess that isn't a requirement for EAD. I can go abroad while EAD application is pending. Is that assumption fair?

Yes. Make sure any FP etc. if required is done.
