steps to switch from J1 to H4

Hi All:

Here is my visa situation.

* I am currently on J1 (valid until end of may this year) - Already got the J1 waiver so no issues switching from J1 to another visa category

* I want to switch to my spouse's H1 visa as a dependent.

My questions are:

(1) If I apply for a J1-to-H4 change of status, when can I stop working for the current employer?

(a) Should I continue to work until the H4 approval comes through?

OR

(b) Can I stop working just after I apply for the change of status?

You can stop working after getting the receipt for the COS.
