I-94 Extension

I work on H1B visa. My current visa expires in January 2013 and I already have new visa extension (I-797) until Jan 2016. I went out of USA a few weeks back after I got my new visa extension. I surrendered all my I-94 forms at the airport, including the one which was valid until Jan 2016. When I returned to the US, the visa officer gave me new I-94, but since the visa in my passport was stamped only until Jan 2013, he gave me new I-94 valid only until Jan 2013.Thus currently I have new I-797 which is valid until Jan 2016, but I-94 is valid only until Jan 2013. Is that a problem? If yes, how can I get new I-94 valid until Jan 2016?

At POE, you should have showed your latest 797 to the officer. I guess you need to cross the border for new I94.
