Registration of marriage (H1B with US Citizen)

Hello,

I am an H1B and married a US citizen in INDIA. (religious marriage). I did not get the marriage registered in india as my spouse was supposed to get some certificate from US consulate there. We did not have time.

I want to File for GC based on marriage now. For fast processing-

Shall i get the marriage registered in India? I have heard that the couple needs to be present there. Is it true?

OR

Shall i just go ahead and register the marriage in US? (of course it wont have the actual date of marriage on it)

Anything that i should be aware of for proceeding with option 2?

Please advise.
