h4-h1 but valid h4 visa stamp till next year. need to stamp again if leave country?

i changed from h4 to h1 and started working. i have a valid h4 visa stamp valid till end of next year. if i travel to somewhere outside US in december and come back - do i need to go for h1b stamplng? or can i travel on the h4 visa but have a copy of my h1b petition with me?

you must go for stamping if it was change of status.

Yes. If you want to come back to work for the H1 sponsor you need to come back with the H1 visa.

If you want to comeback and continue working...you need H1b visa.

If you use your H4 visa while coming back....your H1b is no longer valid and Your employer must apply/ammend your status back to H1B for you again. You can not continue working under h1b before COS is approved again.

If you want to enter in H1 status, you need the H1 stamp.
