H1b transfer case pending - visa stamp expiring

I'm on H1b and I was with company A but moved to company B now. I have filed for H1b transfer and the case is pending. The case is pending because of some verification documents required from company B. My labor certification is approved, and hence I have started working here. My visa stamp expires on Jan 1 2013.

My questions is: Can I continue to work legally with company B after Jan 1 (visa stamp expires) even if my H1b transfer case is pending ? If I can, how long can this continue ?

The visa stamp is IMMATERIAL. If you mean the current H1 petition expires on Jan,1 you have 240 days allowed to work for B.
