krithi53
Hi, My Mom has been a permanent resident of USA for almost about 10 years. She never worked here. So, she doesn't have any tax returns filed on her name. She has hard time flying back and forth to maintain her GC status. I plan to apply for citizenship. Will she be eligible for citizenship? She doesn't talk English fluently . But she can manage to communicate . Are there any other options that you can suggest? Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks krithi Link to comment
t75
She was required to file on her world wide income. She needs to meet all of the requirements for naturalization and SHE (not you) must file. Check out the requriements; she needs to enroll in citizenship preparation classes. If she is not interested in doing what is requried, don't press the issue; shecan remain a PR all of her life as long as she meets the requirement to make the US her home. If she does not want to do so, she can relinquish her GC and get a visitors visa. Link to comment
JoeF
Why does she "fly back and forth"? As a PR, she has to live in the US. If she lives abroad, she may have lost her GC. Also, if she has income abroad, that has to be declared on her US tax returns. Link to comment
krithi53
Thanks for the response...she dosen't make any income, she is a homemaker. The reason she has to fly for couple of months in every two years years is to visit her parents .. Link to comment
