Does time spent on dependent status counts towards 6 year cap?

Need advice from experts.

Myself: L1B (2006-2008), H1B(2008-2012) got I140 approved and H1B extended and stamped for another 3 years.

Wife: L2 (2006-2008), H1B(2008-2010), H4 (2010-2012) got H4 Extension and stamped for another 3 Years.

Question: She spent more then 6 year time on various work and dependent status.

She don't have I140. Now can she start working by filling COS to H1B?

She can have an employer file and can start work on approval. She is entitled to a total of 4 years in H1 status.

Thanks for the reply Pontececchio, off-course we understand employer has to file her new H1.

But r u sure her time spent on dependent status will not count for 6 year max cap? and she still can get H1 for 4 years?

The time on H4 is decoupled from the time on H1.

Time spent on Dependent is not counted against the H1 (or L1) time
