ragarwal@gmail.com
Hello, My passport and H1B visa is expiring by Aug 2013 and I am planning to go to India sometime in Nov-Dec 2012 for 2-3 weeks. I want to know if it is safe to travel to India as I will still have more than 6 months left before my passport or visa gets expired. Regards, Ramakant Link to comment
pontevecchio
You will need to extend/renew your passport as the I94 you get on return will be till passport expiry or the H1 petition expiry whichever is earlier. Link to comment
ragarwal@gmail.com
thanks for the response. My current I94 has expiry till Aug 2013 (same as passport expiry date) and hence I think I am ok to travel. Link to comment
ragarwal@gmail.com
I understand that I need to renew the passport which I am planning to do once I return. Reason being my original mark sheets etc are in India and I want to bring the original with me before applying. I understand that in absence of marksheet, the passport will not be ECNR stamped (and I prefer to have ECNR stamped) Link to comment
mumbai_kar
Boss think about all pros-cons. My I94 expiry was Nov2012. I first got it renewed even before planning to move out. Now i would like to plan my visit too. What if you get held up for no reason & then you fall in those 6 months period ... which you should have before your h1 expires prior to your extension being filed. Good to be positive & head on but do think of this ... Link to comment
