H1B applied first and L1B extension applied later by same employer

I am on L1B visa which will expire on 1st Aug 2012 and the current I94 will expire on 28th Aug 2012.

My employer had filed a fresh H1B on 7th May 2012 and is pending(received receipt) with USCIS.

My employer is trying to file L1B extension as well to keep me on the job until the decision on H1B comes. The L1B extension petition is on the way to USCIS (should reach USCUS by tomorrow 1st Aug 2012).

Could you please answer the questions below:

Is it legal to file H1B and L1 extension by the same employer?

Should I specify about the H1B visa in the L1B extension petition?

Are there any impacts if H1B visa is applied first and L1B extension is applied later?

What will happen in case of approved or denied with either or both of the visa petitions?

You will need to leave and come back with the H1 visa at some point of time assuming the H1 is approved.
