Expired greencard renewal

I lived in USA and had a greencard when I was 6 years old. Then my parents took me back to India and my greencard expired when I was 12. Now I am 28 years old and working in USA on a H1-B visa.

Is there any way to renew my expired greencard now?

Unfortunately not. I assume you were born in India.

My case is similar. My Dad was a university professor in the U.S. from when I was 7 through 13 and I had a green card at that time. Unfortunately, your permanent residency (green card) is considered abandoned after 1 year out of the U.S. I really, really, wish it wasn't that way.
