Hi,

I am in India and just got my first H1B approval which is valid till 5th April 2013. I shall be coming to US in April this year (april 2012). Please let me know the process for H1B extension.

Does it depend on the annual cap that is there on H1? What if it gets full?

When and how can I apply for the extension?

How much time would it take for approval?

What if the visa gets expired before I get the renewal?

Any info that you guys can provide would be great.

Once your H1b has been approved you are cap-exempt for 6 years,meaning you dont come under quota for 6 years.

You cannot apply for extension but your employer has to file for the extension.

How much time does it take for approval, depends on lot of factors,you just started,dont worry about it, you will come to know when the time is right.

Even if your visa expires before renewal, you can stay in US as long as you have petition pending with CIS and/or already approved extension.
