H1B petition approved, presently on L2B in US

I have my first H1B approved petition(approved on 31st oct'2011) that was filed by my present employer. This was done without Change of status.

I am presently working on L2B(dependent) visa which is valid until 2013 but I would like to come on my own H1B visa.

I want to stay back in US and get my status changed to H1B. Is it possible..?? If yes then how long does it take..?? and is it only to be done from my employer side.??

Since L2 work periods are delinked from H1 you should stay in L2 status as long as you can before switching to H1. You can change to H1 by leaving and coming back on a H1 visa or by your employer refiling the H1 petition with COS from L2.
