EAD - Change in role

I filed my I-140 and I-485 concurrently in June 2007 in EB3 category for programmer position. I got my EAD in Dec 2007.I am planning change the job using my EAD now and the new company is ready to file my GC under EB2 category but the position at new job offered is architect.

Is it allowed to join as a architect in the new job using my EAD when my GC is filed for a programmer position ?

Any advise on this is highly appreciated.

Yes. But the USCIS may or may not now or in future want to see proof that the Gc job exists. On EAD you may work for anybody. It makes sense if the new firm will start your Gc process as you retain the date.
