I-94 Extension via border crossing for H4 EAD 540 extension

My spouse H1b is just got approved till October 2027.

• Here is the information about my H4 and EAD extension cases which are pending with USCIS,
• H4 and EAD extension file date – 5/10/2024
• Work Authorization EAD expiration – 10/1/2024
• H4 Visa expiration – 10/15/2024

Question: Can I walk across the San Diego / Mexico border (Otay Mesa) and get I-94 extended based on spouse I-797 to qualify for EAD 540 days auto extension. What if I travel to Mexico by land in first week of October (my H4 visa expires on 10/15/2024), 2 weeks before my visa expires, will they update my I-94 based on my husband’s H1 approval notice? Please advise.

Why are you not eligible for AUTOMATIC extension of the EAD?

Because that only applies when they have a valid H4 I-94.
