Skylark
Hi, I got green card through my spouse EB1c petition in 2016. Now that we have completed the mandatory 5 year wait requirement, I’ m looking to apply for US citizenship. However, my spouse is not interested in applying for the same and wants to remain as a permanent resident and retain the indian citizenship/ passport. My question is if i can proceed with applying for US citizenship even through the primary applicant does not want to apply and does it create any issues either in the application process or the citizenship interview? Appreciate any help in advance, Thank you Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
You can apply for citizenship on your own recognizance. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
Sure. Citizenship is not tied to being a dependent on the i-485. Anybody who has had a GC for 5 years can file for naturalization, no matter how they got the GC. Quote Link to comment
