cjneedshelp
Hi All My wife is my cousin and we are related to each other. My wife went for H4 renewal yesterday and was asked stupid questions. she had all documents which were legitimate. so after all the questions - the VO said "Cousin marriages are not allowed in the US and we have to talk to folks in DC before we make a decision on ur case..we will contact you soon." Has anybody went through this? No pink blue slip. The VO said we will contact you soon - reason being - cousin marriage. Any advise. Link to comment
pontevecchio
You should talk to the firm of Murthy in Chennai. This is a complex matter and even in India allowed only in communities where the government accepts that cousin Marriage is a tradition in that group. Link to comment
cjneedshelp
Hi I spoke an attorney in India and also an immigration lawyer in the US. Cousin marriage is legal under certain circumstances in India and my marriage is legal and we have proper documents for it. After talking to the US marriage licensing people - they mentioned that they consider marriages outside the country legal as long as it is legal in the country it happened. So everything is clear except that the consulate officer should make a decision. Even spoke to visa specialist in DC and they said it will be decided only by the VO in India. So will wait and see.
