Can immigrant visa holder travel other country before immigrating USA?

Hello,

   My mom got immigrant visa (IR5) and she wish to travel for pilgrimage before immigrating to USA. This means she needs to hand over the passport with USA visa to local travel agency to receive another country's visiting visa and travel other country. Would her decision impact her immigration to USA in any ways?
