ssr123
I would like to apply for green card for my parents who are both 80 years old and live in India. I am thinking of applying for I-130 and I-485(after approval of I-130) while they are in India. Some questions 1. They will be under the immediate relative category. How do I find processing time for I-485 and interview process for immediate relative category(for chennai consulate in India). 2. Since they are over 80 years old, do they still have to go for interview process in person. Does their age decrease their chance of getting a green card? I appreciate if someone can share their similar experience Thanks. Quote Link to comment
newacct
I-485 is the form for Adjustment of Status which is the process of getting a green card from within the US. Since they are outside the US, they will go through Consular Processing instead. It will not involve I-485. After I-130 is approved, it will go to NVC and the consulate and you guys will be contacted for the next steps. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
An I-485 is adjustment of status, it implies that the person is in the US in a valid status. For people who are abroad there is Consular Processing, the US Consulate will issue an immigrant visa after the I-130 is approved. Quote Link to comment
