yashuk6 Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 Hi, I'm applying for I-485 while downgrading from EB-2 to EB-3. Currently I don't have birth certificate and planning to get one from both in India & Consulate General. Not sure how long it takes in Consulate General to get birth certificate, but just applied for it. Also in worst case scenario, can we submit Non-availability birth certificate(NABC) ? How do we get NABC certificate? Is it OK if we submit the birth certificate issued by Consulate General? Thanks Quote
pontevecchio Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/India.html The consular BC is not acceptable. NABC is obtainable from the relevant registrar of births and deaths and typically involves baksheesh. Quote
Svsv Posted October 23, 2020 Report Posted October 23, 2020 Hi @pontevecchio, could you please help me with a follow-up question? My original birth certificate was laminated 20+ years ago since it was in a bad condition and to protect it from more damage. It's still legible after lamination. The scans of this were accepted for I-140. Will this cause issues during green card final action stage? Quote
