krissia
My sister is on F1, studying and was doing part time in university. She was furloughed, and was told to apply for unemployment benefits. Will it be a problem, a public charge to take the benefit money? How long can she take? Will it affect when applying for her further work visas? Quote Link to comment
JoeF
A person on F1 can't get unemployment benefits. Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
Ordinarily, the answer is NO. More information is necessary. What exactly was she working at? She should look up the state site for unemployment benefits and then go and ask. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
For unemployment benefits, the person has to be willing and ABLE to work in any job. An F1 (nor H1, or L1, for example) does not allow to work for any employer in any job. So, people on F1 (or H1, or L1, etc.) can not get unemployment benefits.
