bebeu Posted October 15, 2017 Report Posted October 15, 2017 I got my GC in 2013 but by the time I got it I had lost my job and could not work for the company that sponsored my Green Card. I was unemployed for the first year and a half of my GC but have been employed since then. I am now eligible for citizenship. Is my unemployment going to raise red flags and hurt my application process?
JoeF Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 It could be a problem, because the GC job didn't exist anymore. You should discuss your situation with a good immigration lawyer.
pontevecchio Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 If the company laid you off around about the time you got the GC, that left you free to seek alternate employment in the same field . Ordinarily you should be able to naturalize as soon as you are able to. As suggested a Lawyer may be able to give you guidance if any is needed.
