Is E-Verify Number Mandatory?

Hello,

I'm on my first OPT, I recently got Full Time job with a client in Cleveland, OH.

When I asked for E-Verify number to submit in my University, they said they don't have a E-Verify number. They said they can provide Tax-ID number. They said it is not mandatory in OHIO state to have E-Verify number.

I'm concerned, is E-verify needed to update in my Sevis while I submit employment offer letter to University?

Or Is Tax-ID sufficient?

Please update me on this.

First, immigration is federal, so state rules don't matter.

Second, e-verify is required for an OPT STEM extension, not for the initial OPT. So, if you are going for an OPT extension, the employer would have to be e-verified.

E-verify number is mandatory for STEM OPT extension.
