H4 EAD without filing for H4 Ext

Hi, my wife's  H4 is valid till Jan 2020 but her EAD is expiring in Oct 2017. Recently, I joined a new employer and my H1 is under processing. So my question is 

1. Do I need to file for H4 even though here current H4 is still valid till 2020.

2. If no, then can I file for H4 EAD based on my H1 receipt number?

1. Not needed.

2. Wait for H-1 approval and then send H-4 EAD docs for extension. Premium processing might open up soon for H-1's.

But I don't have time. Can't I file for EAD with my receipt number?

You can. But your application will be on hold until the primary H-1 is approved.
