B2 I-94 stamped for 1 year at Port of Entry

My Mother-in-law's passport has been stamped for an year by the immigration officer at the Port of Entry and the same reflects on her online 1-94. She traveled to the US on a B2 Visa. So, does that mean it's legal for her to stay in the US till the I-94 expiration date which is 1 year from the date of entry.  We were planning to apply visitor visa extension for 2 months. But when we checked her I-94, her admit date is until 1 year from the date of entry.  Can she stay in US for 8 months without applying for B2 visa extension, as her I-94 is valid for 1 year?
