murty_s
Hello All, My US visa valid few more months but passport expiring in 7 months. I heard I cannot travel with a passport less than 6 months validity. If I renew my passport, can I carry both old and new passports or do i need to get stamped again? Thanks Quote Link to comment
JoeF
You can travel with both passports. The visa in the old passport stays valid even if the passport expires earlier than the visa. Edited August 11, 2020 by JoeF Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
The rule is not applicable to India. But your I94 on return will be till passport expiry. If you get a renewed passport, you will carry both for travel as existing visas in old passports remain valid. Quote Link to comment

Thanks On your return back from India, your passport will get a new I-94 stamp at immigration and if your passport is valid for only six months, then the new I-94 (which will also have a new number), will also be valid for six months only......... Later you will be back on this forum asking how to extend your I-94 to match the visa validity date. ............ Therefore, in your own interest, please renew your passport and carry it with you along with your old passport which has the visa. The visa does not get cancelled. (Suggest you to carry your original H1b Approval notice too. It does not hurt). I have heard that passport can be renewed in India too .... how long will you be staying in India?
