Passport validity while attending a visa interview

Is it mandatory to have a passport validity beyond 6 months of approved work authorized date while attending the Visa Interview? My passport would be expiring in 3 months when I give my Visa interview during this November. I plan to renew  my passport after the interview.

No US visa would be issued with a passport validity under 6 months.

They always say we need to have passport valid for at least 6 months minimum....

Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from the date of interview. November is 3 months away. Renew your passport and then go for stamping. Passport can be renewed 365 days before expiry date. Takes just 2 or 3 weeks to get new passport.
