vv_rocktheworld
I am on H1B and need to travel to canada for 2 days ( need to attend conference) and return back. I have multiple entry canda visitor visa. My last stamping was at ottawa but expired last year. My H1B has been extended but did not got stamping yet. I am planning to go to Calgary ( via Air) and return on Automatic Visa revalidation ( AVR) . If any one recently went to calgary on AVR, kindly share your experience. 1. Where does AVR should be used? At canada airport or port of entry in US landing airport 2. Most of forums say carry old I-94. With I94 became online, Should I carry print out or does this even matter 3. I am planning to take i-797, Letter from employer and letter from client on why I need to go to canada. Any other documents should I carry? appreciate quick response. Thanks, Varun Link to comment
h1bextaug24
Hi varun, I have the similar situation. Please let me know if you got an answer or if you have travelled already?. I was checking with my company's immigration department. They were advising me to cross the border by road as they were not sure about the airport process. Regards, Ujjwal Link to comment
permaudit
I am not sure if you are eligible for AVR. I think you have to get a Visa stamped before you can re-enter. Link to comment
JoeF
For flights from Canada, US immigration is at the Canadian airport. AVR doesn't need a valid visa in the passport. The I-94 is needed, and you keep it. I have no idea how it works with the online I-94s. Link to comment
h1bextaug24
Visa stamping should not be required from Mexico or Canada as long as the stay outside of US is less than 30 days and there is no change in Visa status. Link to comment
