Wife (US Citizen) in India

Hello everybody,

 

My wife is a US citizen and she is currently with me and my Son in India because I had to visit India for an assignment related to my job. Pretty good chance that I am going to be here for a long time. My wife will be finishing her 6 months in India in a few weeks. I heard that a single stay on an Indian Visa cannot exceed 6 months although her Visa doesn't expire for several years. From what I heard from some officials, I learned that she has to report to Police Department in her hometown to continue to stay in India without having to leave the country. I would appreciate any feedback you could provide.

 

Additional Information: Her OCI card is approved but it is currently in Washington D.C. My son is a US citizen too but it is not an issue for him because he has a PIO card.
