Hand Written Passport

HI,

 

I landed in India in Bangalore on the early morning of 26th Nov, and was told at the immigration that my passport is invalid as it is a hand-written passport (10 Yrs passport issues from San Francisco on Aug 2006 and valid till Aug 2016). Now I am a green card holder and I have to go back to USA by 5th. Since I do not reside in India, I do not have any proof of Address in India. Is it possible to travel back to USA on my current passport as USA does not require passport for Green card holders. Any help will be very much appreciated

Sorry to hear that. But it is also curious that the consulate in US would issue a non machine readable passport.

Did you find answer or figure this issue out at all?

 

If someone has green card or any visa page on the passport, the same are machine readable. Would that not solve your problem? (at least to the extent they letting you board the plane and get back to USA)?
