What issues does it create for a small company if employee seeks H1 transfer?

We are a small company in the US and recently sponsored an employee on H1 who is switching to another employer within the first month. Would like to understand:

 

1. Are there any options available to our company to prevent this? 

2. We are in growth mode and might need more people on H1 next year. What impact will it have on our company's future petitions?

No, you can not prevent that. Employment in the US is at will, as you should know as employer.

Future petitions are not affected, as long as you have the ability to pay the future employees. And of course I hope you paid this employee according to the law.
