National Interest Waiver

Hi, 

I have been hoping that my current employer would file my green card. Unfortunately I got laid off because of some funding issues. I'm looking for a new job. 

I'm planning to file my green card on my own since it will take some more time to convince my new boss to apply for my green card. It appears to me that I'm not qualified for EB1 category so my only other option is National Interest waiver(NIW). NIW is approved mainly based on the field of my expertise. (I have Masters degree and 5 years of experience in cancer research and co authorship in four very good journals *Not first author*)

My question is after the NIW is approved and if I switch my field to let's say some clinical research or computers would it effect my green card application or Must I stay in the current field until I get my green card?

FOr NIW, you have to continue to work in your field.
