If not, search for "Jerry Wang sentenced to prison"

"Jerry Wang, the CEO of embattled ******* University in Sunnyvale, has been sentenced to one year in prison for submitting false documents to the Department of Homeland Security, federal officials announced Tuesday.

Wang, 34, of Santa Clara, had been indicted on 15 charges centering on a visa fraud scheme in connection with luring students illegally to *******. He pleaded guilty in April.

U.S. District Judge Edward Davila, who sentenced Wang on Monday, told him he must begin serving his prison term by Nov. 3.

The sentencing follows an investigation by this newspaper that found ******* was among a group of Bay Area schools that misrepresented information on federal applications to sponsor overseas students seeking coveted visas to study in the area."
...

"In a news release Tuesday, Acting U.S. Attorney Brian Stretch described the gravity of the crimes: "Jerry Yang has admitted submitting over 100 fraudulent documents to the government in an effort to circumvent the rules applying to international students," he stated. "In doing so, he has imperiled the programs that allow international students to visit the United States in order to engage in valuable educational exchanges."

Wang's sentencing follows the federal jury conviction last year of another Bay Area university operator -- Susan Su, founder of the now-closed Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton. Su was convicted of dozens of charges, including visa fraud, money laundering and alien harboring, essentially overseeing a sham school that charged foreign nationals millions of dollars to remain in the U.S. with falsified documents."
