Is it mandatory to add husband's surname to wife's name in passport for F2 visa

My husband went to US on F1visa in July. He will be applying for F2 visa by August. My question is do i need to change my last name? as i have only added spouse name that is at the last page of the passport. and will it be a problem during F2 interview if my husband applies just after a month of him gone?

No, you don't need to change your last name if you don't want to.
