Can I study if COS (H1 to F1 ) is in process

Hi,

Currently I am working in USA on H1B visa that will expire on 31Jan2017. I got admission offer for MS(CS) from UNM and applied for the change of status (h1 to f1)on 23th Apr. I recevied I797C from USCIS on 28th Apr, but haven't yet got approval for F1. I need to register for the prgoram on 5th Aug and the classes with start on 17th Aug.

 

My questions are...

1.) Should I resign as I have to serve 30 days notice period?

2.) If I don't get approval by 5th Aug, can I still register for the program and start the classes? (university told me that I could register even if I am on H1).

3.) If I join the college and USCIS don't approval my F1, what will happen?

 

Please help me with these queries.
