NewYorker786 Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 Hello there, My sister is visiting the United states and has a multi-entry(10 years) visit visa(B1/B2) valid for 6 months until 3rd October 2015, we would like her to stay longer. If she were to travel to Canada in September, would she be easily given re-entry? and for for how long would she get the visa for? Thanks in advance!
NewYorker786 Posted May 5, 2015 Author Report Posted May 5, 2015 Can you please tell me why would that be?
jairichi Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Can you please tell me why would that be? This was a practise that was done years back when people on visitor visa used to enjoy extended stay (beyond 6 months) by just crossing the border. Due to this rampant practice immigration authorities have become very strict and no longer entertain this process. Your sister might face intense scrutiny at POE and might be denied entry or given an I94 with short expiry date. A visitor is expected to spend more time in home country in a calendar year.
rahul412 Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Can you please tell me why would that be? Because a visitor is expected to spend more in home country than in visiting country.
NewYorker786 Posted May 6, 2015 Author Report Posted May 6, 2015 Okay, thank you very much. I greatly appreciate the response.
