Dhana29
Hi, Today I came across the USCIS website, It seems 20,000 US Master deg H1B application will be deduct from 65,000.So my understanding is total cab count is 65,000. Below line I copied from USCIS website. 'The congressionally mandated cap on H-1B visas for FY 2016 is 65,000. The first 20,000 H-1B petitions filed for individuals with a U.S. master’s degree or higher are exempt from the 65,000 cap.' Refer this link - http://www.uscis.gov/news/uscis-will-accept-h-1b-petitions-fiscal-year-2016-beginning-april-1-2015 Please help. Thanks! Link to comment
zoofi77
you are not reading it correctly. When they say 'first 20,000 are cap exempt' they are saying first 20000 out of the US Master degree holders. Quota is 65000 and the 20000 are cap exempt. They will first take US master degree holder, take first 20,000 of them and the rest of the people will not be involved in that quota. And after the first 20000 are picked then the rest of them will be included in 65000 people with rest of the world.... hope u understand. Link to comment

It says "exempt from 65,000 cap" that means those 20,000 petitions doesn't come under the cap. Link to comment
JoeF
It means that the first 20K applications with Masters are not counted in the 65K. So, the total is 65K +20K, as has been the case for a while. Link to comment
