gccool
Hi, I was married to a U.S. citizen in Jan 2006 (in India) , came to the U.S. in 2010 September with a green card(with start date of 9/24/2010). My spouse had to be abroad(Thailand)for few years on employment. I was living in US alone for the time he was abroad , We got separated in 2013 and got divorced in September 2014. My question : I have been in the US for 4 years 3 months now, can I apply for citizenship right away or do I wait until the 5 years on GC is completed ( that is 9/2015)and then start the process. Are there any exceptions to apply for citizenship post divorce . Greatly appreciate your time and effort on this . Thank you Link to comment
JoeF
Since you are no longer married to the US citizen, you become eligible for naturalization 5 years after getting the GC. You can apply up to 90 days before the 5-year mark. Link to comment
