US Citizen - Child Name Change

I am planning to go for US Citizenship. I believe my child would become US citizen by default. I would like to change his name as it was messed up while taking Indian passport.

I would like to know what is the procedure for changing Child's name before applying for Certificate of Citizenship.

Thanks!

Nothing is done by default. You have to apply for your child's US citizenship.

Hmm, no. Minor children who are LPRs become US citizens automatically when the parents become citizens.

See http://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents, section "Automatic U.S. Citizenship After Birth - But Before the Age of 18."

I believe the only way to change the name is through a court order, i.e., the usual way for every American.

Wow, thank you JoeF for correcting me. Apologies to OP.

Thanks Joe.

I believe court would be looking for some valid US document like US passport or Certificate of Citizenship.

Is there any way to do name change before applying for US passport or CoC?

It is easy for somebody filing an N-400, but for automatic citizenship, there is no such procedure.

That's why I think it has to be through a court order (the change via N-400 is actually also a court order, the naturalization ceremony doubles as a court session.)

You may want to check with an immigration lawyer, though.
