shekar11#
I am planning to get F1 visa stamped in Jan 2015. Getting stamped in Jan 2015 is a good idea. You can go to Canada also for change of status stamping. Just a suggestion, but home country is always better. I will be graduating in MAY 2015, I will be applying for OPT in April. If you are planning to graduate in May 2015, apply OPT as early Feb 2015. You can file post completion OPT 90 days before your graduation date. My OPT application took 2.5 months to get approved and 2 weeks for the card to arrive in mail. USCIS website states that OPT application might take 90 days to get approved after they receive the application. Also remember that you cannot expedite the OPT process in any way. Give yourself plenty of time before getting into tensed situations. Can i travel when my OPT approval is pending? You can travel but you cannot enter US without an OPT card. Once your OPT card is approved and mailed to your US address, someone from US needs to FedEx the card to India so that you can show it at Port of Entry. You also need an employment letter. Can I travel when my OPT is approved ? This is the safest option. Link to comment
